Catholic School Argument

There are two ways to overcome the trouble caused by public championship of Catholic schools. The first is to retire public accompaniment to all in all religious schools, making a bad situation worse, perhaps catastrophically so. The second -- arguably the only ethical response -- is to acknowledge the current shabbiness and announce the intention to remove it by eliminating public reenforcement for Catholic schools. A courageous government that did this would simultaneously bring home the bacon fairness, show respect for freedom of conscience and religion by sharpening the boundary between church and state, and shore up reinforcement for public education. Courage, competence and an appeal to our best are the ternion characteristics of ethical leading. They should be brought to bear on public funding of religious schools. But the matter is even to a greater extent mingled: isnt it unfair that Catholic schools in Ontario receive public money while early(a) faith-based schools do not? Ontario is a more diverse province now than it was when separate school funding was introduced. Does that greater diversity now justify extending funding to other religious schools?

My answer is no, for another criterion of good leadership is competence -- the ability to see the big picture. Education is orderings great equalizer. The Green Party of Ontario advocates a move toward a single, publicly funded school system that offers all children the same prospect to learn together, in English or French, in an inclusive and supportive environment. Eliminating the duplication and inefficiencies in the current school prototype will allow us to direct resources where they are unavoidable most: in the classroom.
