If put briefly, Stuart England in the 17th century is especially far-famed for the continuing fight in the midst of Catholics
and Protestants, increasing fight mingled with fan tan and the Crown, resulting in a Civil War.
One of the virtually important political force was Puritanism - radical Protestant groups. They valued to purify the church by paring down church ritual, educating the clergy, and limiting the powers of bishops. The Puritans also favoured thrift, education and individual initiative; therefore they found great support among the new middle conformation of merchants, the powers in the Commons.
Elizabeth was followed to the throne by mob VI of Scotland (Mary Stuarts son), who became James I of England. James believed in the absolute power of the monarchy (that the king was chosen by God, and therefore only God could think him). He expressed these opinions openly which led to trouble with Parliament (which at that time represented the interests of nobles and merchants). James tried to recover without Parliament, giving a preference to a small council, and he was quite successful in ruling without Parliament between 1611 and 1621, but it was only possible because England remained in peace. He could not afford the cost of an army.



In 1618 at the beginning of the xxx Years War in Europe, Parliament wished to go to contend against the Catholics, but James would not agree, even though he himself was a firm Protestant (he banished all Catholic priests from the kingdom). Until his demise in 1625, James was always quarrelling with Parliament over notes and foreign policy.
James reign was the time of deepening religious controversy (the country was highly polarised along religious lines). two Catholics and Protestants hoped that the king would champion their cause, but he was inclined to uncomplete camp.
